The demonic nightmare will be modled by...

Harley Rainey.

The chosen model to be transformed into a demonic nightmare is Harley Rainey! 

Model search...

In order for the demonic character to come to life a model is needed. To ensure I found a suitable model I  made brief requirements which were;
                                             
  • Male.
  • Tall.
I didn't make many requirements based on the fact I didn't want to limit my search too much, keeping possibility's open with basic requirements in mind. To find a male model suited to this role I used numerous social networking sites such as; Facebook and Twitter along with considering friends and family. Upon reflection I felt using a friend or family member would not give the desired result, searching for a professional model was the way forward. I sent out a tweet on twitter linking in different peoples twitter accounts such as: @Shootingbeauty.
 within a couple hours it had been re-tweeted three times by;
  •    @Cocotraycouture 
  •     @theginthescarf    
  •     @Shooting_Beauty   
@Shooting_Beauty were kind enough to mention me in one of their tweets as shown below;


  When all this was happening I received interest for example (see bellow)





Out of the comments and private messages received it was narrowed down to two models which were:





The reason these two models were chosen was their looks are opposite to each other which would give two different effects to the overall image of the character. Harley Rainey has a broad muscular build whilst Killian O'Brien has a slim build. 





Character design...



The images above are initial rough sketches of what the demonic nightmare will soon become! Whilst drawing these sketches I used a favourite technique of mine called 'automatic drawing' by doing this technique you get the best result especially for initial sketches. Automatic drawing is where you draw with out thinking which is a great way of giving a starting point to any design development. Another technique which is useful for first designs is giving yourself a time limit, by doing so it will help stop you from having time to start thinking about what you are doing. The images above where completed within a few minutes each accompanied by music. Overall they are a great starting point giving a definite potential structure to the creature, from analysing the sketches closer it seems simplicity could very well be key...

Mission statement...

This blog post is a follow up from the introduction post and will explain what it is I plan to do. Which will include aspects such as character design, life-casting the model, sculpting and more! Within this module seven words were provided to choose from;
                                                                                              
  •  Ancient one.
  • Demonic nightmare.
  • Strange beauty.
  • Industrial oddity.
  • Weird beast.
  • Metamorphosis.
  • The future.
 
The initial word that stood out from all the rest was the words 'Demonic nightmare' as its of a subject that I am familiar with, suited to my style of work. That's not to say that the other six words were not considered, at times creatively it can be beneficial to choose a subject matter you are not comfortable with, that is not your usually style of work  in order to get the best results and use of your potential. After going through the other six words given looking at various references to spark inspiration the words that creatively intrigued me most were; strange beauty and weird beast. Although they were not my first choice they still fit in to a style of work that inspires me which is fantasy.
In the end it was in my best interest to go with the word's 'Demonic nightmare' the imagery of what could be created was much stronger than the other two words. I plan to create a hybrid creature, part demon, part human with animalistic features. Less is more, the more simplistic the design is the more disturbing the end result will be which is the desired effect.  Character design will be arriving in posts to come beginning to process.
