Silicone mould part two...
As a reminder from the previous blog post, tin silicone has been used this type of silicone is used for mould making and again it is important to remember that it is not skin safe! Wear protective gloves when handling the product.
Products will be thoroughly mixed together (10% catalyst) the image below shows what was used.
Now the final layer of silicone has set it is time to make a 'jacket mould' made out of mod rock to support the silicone. The reason this needs to be done is because the silicone is a flexible material meaning it can easily move around and needs support when creating multiple casts. In another post I will show how a jacket mould is made.
Products will be thoroughly mixed together (10% catalyst) the image below shows what was used.
Once the silicone is thoroughly mixed together, it is time to start putting it on the cast use a paint brush for this. Here are a couple images demonstrating the process.
Once this layer of silicone had set another layer was added to ensure that it was thick enough for future use. Which is shown in the image below.
Silicone mould making....
After producing the face cast a silicon mould will be made the reason for this is by having a silicone mould of the original cast it is possible to replicate it multiple times. The type of silicon used was 'tin silicon' which is typically used for mould making, an important aspect to keep in mind whilst handling this product is that it is not skin safe (wear protective gloves). Before going into detail about the silicon stage, preparation for this stage will be discussed aided by images.
Clay was placed and smoothed around the edges of the cast to secure, level and to prevent flashing/ overflow. Next as displayed in the image below a clean, smooth, level band of clay has been put around the cast. With keys placed in the clay, what a keys are will be explained later on in this process.
A 'wall' has been built for safety during the silicon stage, what I mean by this is the wall will prevent the silicone from running off the cast onto the counter top making a mess wasting product. When making the wall in question make sure that the clay at least a cm in width and inch in height.
The next step will be using silicon but that will be discussed in a separate post to prevent this post from being too long and will break up the amount of information I am giving.

Face casting...
The process of producing a cast of the models face.
This is an important step of making a prosthetic! Why? It is needed through out the entire production of a facial prosthetic piece. The cast will make the prosthetic custom fit to the models face enabling him to move his face properly and to give a realistic finish. The following post will be a step by step on how the process of producing a face cast.
